He completed his internship in 6 months in England at Peterborough District Hospital and Lincoln County Hospital, working in Pediatrics, Vascular and General Surgery and Obstetrics Clinics. He started specialization of Neurosurgery in 1992 at Ankara Numune Hospital. He completed EANS training courses in September 1996 which he attended for four years and passed the European Board of Neurosurgery written exam. He became the Brain and Nerve Surgery specialist upon completing his specialization in 1997. In 1996 he went to Montreal Institute of Neurological Sciences for a month with his own means. Visiting Toronto from here, he met Prof. Dr. Charles Tator. He then went to Little Rock, Arkansas where he visited Dr. Glen Pait and Prof. Dr. Gazi Yasargil for a short time there.

He was appointed as the chief intern at the same hospital as soon as he became a specialist. In this hospital where he worked until 2010, he personally did the operations of complex cases such as cranial, spinal, pediatric, trauma and vascular neurosurgery and sometimes managed these operations. He worked in the Department of Anatomy in Ankara University and in research laboratories of Ankara University and Hacettepe University in order for being developed of complex spinal surgery operations.

In 1998-1999, at the Faculty of Medicine of University of Toronto, he studied “spinal cord injury and regeneration” with Prof. Dr. Charles Tator as “research fellow”. There, he conducted studies on spinal cord regeneration and bridging the injured spinal cord with peripheral nerve grafts. While maintaining an intensive clinical practice after returning to Turkey, he started Advanced Neurosciences doctorate at Institute of Medical Sciences at Hacettepe University. During his doctorate, he performed tissue and animal studies on neuroprotection, especially in the spinal cord injury. He received his Ph. D. (doctor of science) in 2005, by completing his thesis.
